Al-Urdun Al-Jadid Research Center (UJRC)

Al-Urdun Al-Jadid Research Center (UJRC) is an independent non-governmental organization (NGO) working for sustainable development in Jordan and the Arab World, through developing scientific research, administering discussions and dialogues, organizing conferences and workshops, and exchanging expertise and experience with other regional and international organizations.

UJRC pursues its objectives through forums for dialogue and discussion, especially on issues of democratic development, and by developing general policies and legislations, through workshops, brainstorming sessions, conferences, and seminars. The Center also publishes the proceedings of these activities, including research papers sponsored or prepared by the Center, in a wide-ranging series of publications.

The Center was established in 1990 as an extension to the quarterly Al-Urdun Al-Jadid magazine (1984-1990). UJRC began working in 1993 with a license from the Department of Press and Publication (Ministry of Information) in conformity with Law Number 10 issued in 1993.

The Center is a founding member of, and a participant in, a number of regional networks and umbrella groups, such as the Arab Social Sciences Research (ASSR) and the Arab Institute for Studies and Communication (AISC). It heads the Arab Network for Democratic Development (ANDD) and is also a member in the European-Mediterranean Network for Human Rights (EMHRN), and the World Movement for Democracy. The Center contributes to government and municipal projects and is a member of many governmental and non-governmental committees; such as the Jordan Scenarios 2020 project.

Arab Centre for Research & Policy Studies

The Center is envisaged as one which plays a proactive role in the Arab region, not confining its work to scholarly research but translating it practically into various activities and initiatives. In effect, it would not merely function as a “think tank”, but would also produce analyses, outreach papers for the general public and public opinion makers, plans of action and Arab working proposals.

To cite some examples, the Center will launch research programs in the form of ad hoc specialized projects which would culminate with the publication of their conclusions, as well as an annual Arab public opinion program.

In addition to research and studies, the Center will publish case analyses, policy analyses, working papers and reports. The Center will form a network of researchers from the Arab world and beyond, who are concerned with problems which beset the Arab world, and who seek to promote freedom and justice in Arab societies and to liberate Arab men and women from all forms of internal and external domination and control.

The Center will also provide research training for graduates of Qatari universities by means of an internship program. The training will include scientific research, research paper writing, and the writing of “position papers” which target decision-makers in the various institutions where they work.
