Berlin Doctoral Fellowship in the Social Sciences

The Institute for Democracy and Human Rights (IDHR) enjoys international linkages with several institutions, including Germany's leading social science research institute, the WZB. IDHR has a PhD collaboration agreement with the WZB in support of short-term visits by doctoral students at the University of Sydney in any field of the social sciences.

The fellowship allow for a contribution of up to $5,000 towards airfare and living costs for a three-month period at WZB. The fellowships are tenable between July and December 2013. If successful in obtaining the fellowship, you will be asked to submit a follow-up report on your research.

Applications for 2013 open on the 20th of May and will close 14th of June 2013. Shortlisted candidates will be notified by email

HOW TO APPLY

Before making an application for the fellowship, consult with your supervisor(s). Their signature is required to validate your applica1tion. Also you should have researched the WZB and note in your application the academic you wish to be aligned with or the area within WZB.

By applying, you agree to the following conditions:

  • You have completed the first year of your PhD, and work on your dissertation is well under way;
  • You will be based at WZB for no less than 3 months, commencing between July and December 2013;
  • Visas, accommodation and travel will be arranged solely by the successful fellowship student;
  • A brief research report must be submitted within 8 weeks of your return to the University of Sydney.
