Marco Santello

Marco Santello graduated from the University of Padua with a thesis on the aesthetic characteristics of the close-up in contemporary cinema. Afterwards, he gained his MA magna cum laude at the Catholic University of Milan.
Subsequent to his graduation he lived in Norway, where he was involved in various activities with the Italian Culture Institute of Oslo, and then moved to Canada to work within the Italian community of Toronto.
His academic interests include sociolinguistics, cognitive linguistics, bilingualism, language contact phenomena, media studies and advertising.
His doctoral thesis explores the role of language dominance and language attitudes in determining bilinguals’ response to persuasive messages in different languages. In particular, he focuses on evaluation of advertising in Italian and English by Italian-English bilinguals.
