I have trained in both applied linguistics and formal linguistics for my post-graduate studies. My linguistic training covers a various subfields of formal linguistics - phonetics, phonology, morphology, and syntax. I have published papers in Korean linguistics and teaching Korean as a foreign language (TKFL), and produced a few edited books and Korean language textbooks.
Research areas
My research interest lies in Korean linguistics (phonology, morphology, syntax and sociolinguisitcs) and teaching/learning KFL.

Other professional contributions
- Executive Member, Council of Korean Scholars in Australia (CKSA), 1992-1994.
From July 1992 June 1994, as Vice-President and President of the Council of Korean Scholars in Australia (CKSA), organised seminars for members of the Council, academics and Korean community people in Sydney. From July 1993 to June 1994, served as President of the Council. - Yejiwon Korean Traditional Costume Show, May 1993.
Assisted the School of Asian Studies to host and organise the Yejiwon Korean Traditional Costume Show held at the MacLaurin Hall, University of Sydney, 29 May 1993. More than 20 Yejiwon members are invited to perform the enactment of the Korean traditional wedding ceremony and traditional costume show, which drew an audience of over 200. - Promotion of High School Korean Programs in NSW, 1994-1995.
In 1994 and 1995, as a member of Korean Examination Committee and Supervisor of the Marking Committee, produced examination papers for HSC Korean and supervised the marking of the exams. - KLEAR Textbook Project Guidelines Committee, 1994 - 1995.

The Third Pacific and Asia Conference on Korean Studies (PACKS), Biennial Conference of the Pacific and Asia Council for Korean Studies, University of Sydney.
* Prepared for the Conference as Secretary of the Conference Organising Committee since April 1995.
* 130 scholars from 15 countries were invited to present their papers in 14 Korea-related disciplinary areas in the humanities and social sciences.
* For the Conference budget, the Organising Committee raised over A$230,000: US$100,000 from the Korean Research Foundation, US$50,000 from the Korean Foundation, A$15,000 from the Australia-Korea Foundation. In addition to these major sponsors in Korea, the Organising Committee received considerable financial contribution from Australian and Korean organisations and local business firms, eg, US$3,000 from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Canberra, US$3,000 from the Academy of Korean Studies, A$5,000 from BHP, A$6,000 from C and A, A$2,600 from the University of Sydney, and A$1,000 from Australian Tourist Commission (total operating revenue was A$233,627). - Executive Member, Korean Studies Association of Australasia (KSAA), 1996-1998.
From July 1996 to September 1998, major activities as President of the Korean Studies Association of Australasia (KSAA) included cooperation with the National Library’s survey project in Korean library resources, awarding postgraduate conference travel grants, organisation of panels in Korean studies at the 12th ASAA Conference, and establishment of the KSAA website homepage. From 1998 to 2000, served as Treasurer of the Association - Executive Committee Member of the School: 1991-2006.
