Biographical details

Maïa Ponsonnet joined the Linguistics Department at the University of Sydney as a DECRA Post-doctoral Fellow in 2016. She studies expressivity and the encoding of emotions in language, with a particular interest in Indigenous Australian languages.

Maïa Ponsonnet earned a PhD in Linguistics at the Australian National University in 2013. Her PhD thesis focused on expressivity and emotions in Dalabon, a severely endangered Gunwinyguan language of Arnhem Land (northern Australia). Between 2013 and 2015, Maïa Ponsonnet was a Post-doctoral Researcher with the French CNRS, working on the encoding of emotions in Kriol, a creole now spoken in Arnhem Land.
