Description
The course will include discussion of issues in the content and structure of phonological representations and formalisms leading to the development of Optimality Theory. Topics include: the content and structure of phonological representation; multi-tiered phonology, syllable structure, epenthesis, metrical phonology, lexical phonology and the cycle/strata, prosodic phonology, feature geometry, underspecification theory, and the interfaces between phonology other modules of the grammar.
