“Just Take Two and Off You Go”: The Representation of the Use of Medicines in TV medical Drama
This thesis is based on a content analysis on the use of medicines in a 2007 series of House (USA), [[All Saints (Aus) and Holby City (UK).
Existing research indicates that television audiences respond more favorably to information embedded in an issues-based entertainment drama, rather than dramatic narrative packaged as specifically ‘educational’. This leads to my research question “Do TV medical dramas portray the use of medicines ethically and responsibly”.
This may lead to the opportunity for post doctoral research to look at the affect of TV medical drama on GPs and consumers.
