Helen is a Research Assistant in Old Norse-Icelandic, working on the international project "Skaldic Poetry of the Scandinavian Middle Ages". She holds a B.A. (Hons) and an M.A. in English from the University of Durham. She came to Sydney in 2008 to work on her Ph.D. thesis examining the depiction of Landscape in Old English literature. Her research interests include the representation of space and place in Old English texts, Anglo-Saxon attitudes to the British (and visa versa), Old English humour, and Anglo-Saxon cartography.

Helen has recently presented at conferences in the UK and Australasia. She is a member of the Centre for Medieval Studies, ANZAMEMS, The Viking Society for Northern Research, and the Australasian Humour Studies network.

Helen can often be found teaching Old English language, and runs the Old English reading group.
