The Visual Resources Library

The Power Visual Resources Library comprises three specialist collections, primarily used for reference and teaching in relation to courses offered by the Department of Art History and Film Studies.

  • The Digital Image Collection - an online archive containing over 47,000 high resolution images of artworks ranging from prehistoric to contemporary times. The collection comprises many sub-collections - many can be accessed by students and teaching staff, whilst others are private research collections. The collections are available through Schaeffer Library's Digital Image Database (students can obtain login details from their tutors and lecturers).
  • The Film Collection - more than 1,200 DVDs and VHS tapes, containing over 2,000 films. These materials may be booked for viewing in the library (preference is given to Film Studies students). Holdings may be searched through the Art History Film Collection in Schaeffer Library's Digital Image Database (in 2012 this collection will be added to the University of Sydney Library catalogue). Please contact the Schaeffer library staff for more information or to make a booking.
  • The Slide Collection - a legacy collection of more than 130,000 glass-mounted 35mm slides. Access to this collection is only available to academic staff from the Department of Art History & Film studies.
