Call for Submissions

The Journal of the Oriental Society of Australia (JOSA) has been published continuously from 1960. It is the oldest journal on Asia currently published in Australia. In 2002, with volume 34, an index of the journal contents covering the history of the journal was published. Pleae refer to the Chronological Index,Author Index,Title Keyword Index lists for research on China, Japan, South East Asia, South Asia, Korea, Mongolia, Tibet, Burma, Cambodia, the Middle East and Sri Lanka. The journal distribution covers 85 academic institutions worldwide.

The first and founding editor was Professor A. R. Davis, formerly Professor of Oriental Studies at the University of Sydney, which has provided a safe home for JOSA during those five decades. Every year the Oriental Society of Australia honours its founder by sponsoring an A. R. Davis Memorial Lecture which is printed in the journal.

JOSA is a refereed journal. All articles, except for the A. R. Davis Memorial Lecture, are sent anonymously to two referees. The journal accepts contributions on Asia from Australia and abroad. Please assist in continuing the long tradition of this important journal, one of the most significant pioneers in Australia of scholarly publication on Asia.

Article and Book Review Submissions to the journal should not a) be accepted for publication or (b) have been published elsewhere. Papers accepted for publication by the journal must follow the typographical conventions and style used in the current edition of JOSA. Subscriptions, manuscripts and communications should be addressed to the journal editor, Dr. Sue Wiles, at the address below. All contributions should be emailed as a Microsoft Word file, in Times New Roman 12 point (double spaced), with a hard copy sent to the address below. Publication of the Journal is usually at the beginning of the calendar year, which is also the academic year in Australia.
