Alex Norman

Alex is a PhD candidate, tutor, and research assistant at the Department of Studies in Religion at the University of Sydney. His PhD research was assisted the Australian Postgraduate Award and the Royston George Booker Scholarship. His research interests include tourism and religion, new religious movements, and the practice of secular spirituality in the everyday. His doctoral thesis research examines the intersection of travel and secular spiritual practice in the contemporary Western world. He recently contributed a chapter on tourism and religion to the forthcoming Religion in the Practice of Daily Life (Praeger 2010). He hopes to make tourism a more thoroughly examined subject in the subject of religion.
Alex has also been a facilitator of the University of Sydney’s Tutors Development Program, and in 2008 received the Faculty of Arts Excellence in Teaching (Practice) Award.
