Dr Annie Clarke

I am the co-ordinator for the Heritage Studies program which is an undergraduate major in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. I currently teach the four units of study in Heritage Studies at the University of Sydney.

The Indigenous Archaeology of Northern Australia, focusing on Eastern Arnhem Land. The art and archaeology of cross-cultural interactions. Community-based archaeology and heritage. Collecting studies, specifically focusing on the role of Indigenous agency in the formation of Museum collections and the relationships between popular collecting and private museums. I have a longstanding research interest in the archaeology and rock art of cross-cultural interactions based on field research on Groote Eylandt and in eastern Arnhem Land. My research is situated within a community-based approach to archaeology. I have recently begun a new research program which is concerned with Collecting Studies, specifically focusing on the role of Indigenous agency in the formation of Museum collections and on the relationships between popular collecting and private museums.
