Activities relevant to the proposed research group

Ahmar Mahboob has published extensively on issues that explore the relationship between language and identity. His work on Pakistani English looks at how language is adapted in various communities to reflect local cultural practices. Ahmar has explored issues of being a native speaker of English and ‘racial’ and ‘ethnic’ identities in professional contexts, especially in the context of the English language teaching profession. Ahmar has also been working on issues of migration and language and has studied how language plays a role in the process of migration and assimilation. Recently (2010), Ahmar, as part of an international team of researchers, received a WUN Research Development Grant to further develop their project Skilled Migration and Global English.
