The Inaugural J. Basil Hennessy Memorial Lecture

The inaugural lecture will be given by Dr. Stephen Bourke. The lecture will outline Hennessy’s life in Near Eastern Archaeology, from his first work in Turkey and Cyprus, to his seminal meeting with Kathleen Kenyon at Jericho in 1952, which shaped his life in archaeology thereafter. It will also detail many of the important discoveries at Teleilat Ghassul and Pella, before evaluating Hennessy’s achievements and his on-going importance to the intellectual life of the Australian archaeological community.
