Research

Staff in the Department of Sociology and Social Policy have expertise in a large number of research areas and are currently working on a range of specific research projects, commissioned consultancies and publications. For more background on current research see Staff Profiles.

We also research strengths that result from team and collaborative work undertaken by senior and emerging scholars as well as postgraduate students. These dynamic research clusters engage with many of the key issues in contemporary society: Migration, Health, Knowledge, and Human Rights. For more background on these areas of strength see Research Clusters

The Department encourages a culture of research and debate, and fosters research through individual and collaborative research development amongst staff, and through the development of a strong postgraduate research degree program.

The Department has an annual program of research seminars which include University of Sydney staff and visiting scholars from other Australian and international universities. See Seminars.

There are currently around forty postgraduate research students being supervised within the department, and a range of postgraduate research degree options are offered. See Postgraduate Research.
