UNDERGRADUATE MAJORS
The requirements for each of the three possible majors are laid out below.

Major in Sociology
For a major in Sociology, students must complete a total of 48 credit points comprised of all of the following:
- 12 Junior credit points:
- SCLG1001 Introduction to Sociology 1
- SCLG1002 Introduction to Sociology 2
- 12 credit points of compulsory senior units:
- SCLG2601 Sociological Theory and
- Either SCLG2602 Social Inquiry: Qualitative Methods or SCLG3603 Quantitative Methods for Social Science
- At least 4 units of study (24 credit points) of senior elective units of study selected from the units offered, including cross-listed units in other departments
Major in Social Policy
For a major in Social Policy, students must complete a total of 48 credit points comprised of all of the following:
- 12 credit points of compulsory junior units in Sociology:
- SCLG1001 Introduction to Sociology 1
- SCLG1002 Introduction to Sociology 2
- 30 credit points of compulsory senior units in Sociology:
- SCPL2601 Australian Social Policy
- SCPL2602 The Principles of Social Policy
- SCLG2611 Welfare States: A Comparative Analysis
- SCLG2601 Sociological Theory
- Either SCLG2602 Social Inquiry: Qualitative Methods or SCLG3603 Quantitative Methods for Social Science
- At least 1 senior elective unit of study (6 credit points) selected from the units offered.
Major in Socio-legal Studies
For a major in Socio-Legal Studies, students must complete a total of 48 credit points comprised of all of the following:
- 12 credit points of compulsory junior units in Socio-Legal Studies:
- SLSS1001 Introduction to Socio-Legal Studies
- SLSS1003 Law and Contemporary Society
- 24 credit points of compulsory senior units in Socio-Legal Studies:
- SCLG2601 Sociological Theory
- SLSS2601 Socio-Legal Research
- SLCG2615 Law and Social Theory
- PHIL2645 Philosophy of Law
- At least 2 units of study (12 credit points) of senior elective units of study selected from the units offered.
