Emilia Sáez Nieto was born in Segovia, Spain. She completed her Arts degree, with a major in Psychology at the Universidad Complutense, Madrid, and her teacher-training at the Universidad de Valladolid. She has completed a further degree, in Educational Psychology, at the University of Leiden, a Graduate Diploma in Modern Language Teaching and a Master of Education in TESOL and Language Teaching at the University of Sydney. She also has NAATI level II qualifications in English and Spanish.

Ms Sáez Nieto has taught a variety of languages to adults in a variety of contexts. French to junior high school in Spain, Spanish to youth and Immigrant Associations in Holland, and since 1992, Spanish in Australia at the University of New South Wales, Insearch (UTS), and at the University of Sydney.
