SPAN1611 - Spanish Level 1

This unit of study is for absolute beginners or for students who have no substantial prior knowledge of Spanish. It focuses on the basic vocabulary and grammar necessary to introduce and talk about yourself and other people, and communicate successfully in simple everyday situations, both by speaking and in writing. It also provides an overview of the history, society and culture of the Spanish-speaking countries.
3x300wd short language tests (20%), oral class tasks (equivalent to 300wds) (10%), 1x2hr final exam (40%), 1xgroup task (equivalent to 500wds) (10%), 1xmultiple choice test (10%), tutorial participation and WebCT tasks (10%)
1x1-hr lecture/week, 1x2-hr tutorial/week, 1x1-hr tutorial/week.
Not to be taken by students with prior knowledge of Spanish.
Students who have already studied Spanish at HSC level, or who have equivalent knowledge, may not take SPAN1611. Students should contact the department, which will determine the appropriate level of enrolment.
