Biographical details

Mike’s research concentrates on the evolution of economic policy. His recently-completed PhD thesis deals with inflation and macroeconomic policy in Australia between the 1940s and 1980s. He uses a focus on counter-inflation policy to reflect on change in policy as a whole, because it touches on so many aspects of the state within the capitalist economy, especially money and finance, the labour market, and the exchange rate. He is currently working on a book version of the thesis, bringing the story up to the 2000s, and on another project on the evolution of central banking outside Australia. Other interests include Marxian and post-Keynesian theory, especially of money, finance and interest rates, and the history of macroeconomics.
