Film Introduction and Q + A: The Human Scale
Dr Lee Stickells introduces the gripping documentary, The Human Scale. Following the screening Stickells will facilitate a Q&A with Director Andreas Dalsgaard and Producer Signe Byrge Sorensen.
Urban-planning maestro Jan Gehl is on a mission to reclaim our public spaces, throwing out car-driven urban design and building cities for humans. Director Andreas Dalsgaard charts Gehl's influence around the globe. He formed his ideas about urban space in his hometown of Copenhagen, beginning with diligently recording how people use city streets and squares. His methods inspired a re-imagining of New York's Times Square, the newly iconic laneways of Melbourne and - even closer to home - a game-changing report for the City of Sydney.
His ideas are also taking root in the fastest-growing megacity in the world, Dhaka; and in Christchurch, where Gehl Architects' David Sim talks to locals about their vision for reconstructing their city.
Director Dalsgard and Gehl Architects' David Sim will attend both the screening and a presentation at Vivid Live (page 41). Dalsgaard's documentary Cities on Speed: Bogota Change screens at the Festival Hub (page 33).
