One morning Ruth wakes thinking a tiger has been in her seaside house. Later that day a formidable woman called Frida arrives. She's come to care for Ruth. Frida and the tiger: both are here to stay, neither is what they seem. Who can she trust? The Night Guest is a mesmerising debut novel about love, dependence and the fear of uncertainty.

Richard Wherrett Studio, Sydney Theatre, 22 Hickson Road, Walsh Bay

Event type: Panel

Whether imagined or real, seeing the world from different perspectives can be illuminating and transforming. But it takes true skill to do it well. In Ceridwen Dovey’s Only the Animals the souls of 10 animals tell the story of their own deaths. Chris Flynn writes in the voices of a range of carnival characters in The Glass Kingdom and Fiona McFarlane writes in the voice of an elderly widow whose mind isn’t what it once was in The Night Guest. They speak with Angela Meyer.
