Lauren Pearce is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts reading English and history at the University of Sydney. She first achieved recognition for her writing at age 16 when she was named the 2011 South-west Sydney finalist for the Sydney Morning Herald’s Young Writer of the Year. She achieved the same title in 2012 and her story "The Wisdom Tooth Diaries" was subsequently published in the collection "When Words Take Flight: Young Writer of the Year Finalists". Within the same year, her story "Home, Where the Birds won’t Fly" was also named the runner-up for the John Marsden Prize. 2013 will be her festival debut.
