Telling Stories: Conflict in Art

How do artists engage with war and what stories are they telling? Where is the line between documentation and interpretation? And how do varying art forms engage us differently? MCA’s Senior Curator Rachel Kent speaks about representations of conflict in art with Michael Fried, one of the world’s greatest art critics, Afghan artist Khadim Ali, whose recent paintings engage with current issues through the lens of historical and literary tradition, and award-winning photographer Benjamin Lowy, whose images of Iraq were chosen as some of the most iconic of the 21st century.
