James Wood: The Fun Stuff
D.H. Lawrence once said, ‘Never trust the artist. Trust the tale. The proper function of a critic is to save the tale from the artist who created it’. There are probably more than a few authors who would disagree with this statement, but it does raise a good point about the role of the critic. In this session, The New Yorker’s book critic James Wood talks to The Sydney Morning Herald’s Literary Editor and University of Sydney alumna, Susan Wyndham, about the art of critiquing and his latest collection of essays, The Fun Stuff.
