Postgraduate Courses
PLEASE NOTE: The Faculty of Science wishes to advise that from 2013, MOBT PG coursework degrees/diplomas will not be available to new students. However, applications are still being accepted for students wishing to commence in Semester 2, 2012.
Three postgraduate courses are offered to both local and international students:
- Master of Applied Science (Molecular Biotechnology)
- Graduate Diploma in Applied Science (Molecular Biotechnology)
- Graduate Certificate in Applied Science (Molecular Biotechnology)
The Master of Applied Science (MBT), Graduate Diploma in Applied Science (MBT) and Graduate Certificate in Applied Science (MBT) are intended for local and international graduates in science and allied fields, and industry employees, who wish to gain specialist knowledge in biotechnology to advance their career and employment prospects.

Candidates for all degrees complete two core units of study MOBT5101 and MOBT5102 complete with lectures, tutorials and a laboratory practical component. Candidates in the GradDipAppSc (MBT) and MApplSc (MBT) also complete elective units of study.
Candidates in the MApplSc (MBT) also enrol in MOBT5303 that provides students with first-hand contact with the biotechnology industry. Industry Placements, available subject to quota and determined on academic merit, place individual students within a biotechnology company or on an industry-relevant project at the University or an affiliated institute or research centre. All other students complete an Industry Case Study in small groups, typically involving one or more industry site visits if the company is located in Sydney, to research a specific product and aspects of a biotechnology company or centre. Presentations to fellow students and staff on placements and case studies conclude the unit.
Advanced online learning systems are also available to all enrolled students.
