Make a bequest

As each individual’s circumstances vary, we recommend that you speak to your lawyer, accountant or financial adviser in drafting your Will.

The following sample clauses, however, may help you in remembering the Brain & Mind Research Institute in your Will:

• Residual or percentage bequests
• Specific bequests
• Bequest for scholarships/bursaries
• Bequest for research

Residual or percentage bequests

"I give the residue (or ___% ) of my estate to the Brain & Mind Research Institute, for its own use absolutely."

Or

"I give the residue (or ___% ) of my estate to the Brain & Mind Research Institute to be used for (specify purpose) provided, however, that if circumstances make the specified use of this bequest impractical or undesirable, the Brain & Mind Research Institute is authorised to apply this bequest to other purposes, such purposes, however, to conform as much as possible to the spirit and intent of this bequest."

Specific bequests

"I give the sum of ______ dollars to the Brain & Mind Research Institute for its own use absolutely."

Or

"I give the sum of ______ dollars to the Brain & Mind Research Institute to be used for _______________ (specify purpose) provided, however, that if circumstances make the specified use of this bequest impractical or undesirable, the Brain & Mind Research Institute is authorised to apply this bequest to other purposes, such purposes, however, to conform as much as possible to the spirit and intent of this bequest."

Bequest for scholarships/bursaries

"I give the sum of _____ dollars (or % or residue of my estate) to the Brain & Mind Research Institute for the purposes of funding one or more (scholarships or bursaries) as the Academic Board, or other equivalent body, of the Brain & Mind Research Institute deems advisable. [It is my wish that the said (scholarship or bursary) be known as _______________, in the area for which it is awarded.]"

Bequest for research

"I give the sum of _____ (or % or residue of my estate) to the Brain & Mind Research Institute to be used for research in ____________ (field or area) or related fields, provided that if it is impractical, in the opinion of the Brain & Mind Research Institute, to apply said sum in research in ____________ (field or area) or related fields, then to use the said sum for research in such fields as the Brain & Mind Research Institute in its absolute discretion deems advisable."
