Domestic applications
If you are an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian permanent resident then you are a domestic applicant. Closing dates for domestic applications
- 31 January 2011* for Semester One (commencement in March 2011)

International applicants
If you not are an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian permanent resident then you are an international applicant. You will be considered as a domestic applicant if you hold dual citizenship with Australia or New Zealand and another country. The University’s International Office processes all international student applications. The International Office is an important resource for international students as it provides assistance with application and enrolment procedures and advice on admission requirements. English language requirements
If English is not your first language, you must demonstrate English language proficiency by one of the following means before admission can be confirmed.
- Provide evidence of satisfactory achievement in tertiary studies in which the exclusive language of the institution and the exclusive language of instruction, examination and assessment was English. These studies must have been undertaken no more than five years before you submit your application.
- Achieve the required grades in “English for Academic Purposes” at the University’s Centre for English Teaching. The course must have been completed no more than two years before you submit your application.
- Achieve the required grades on an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test. Postgraduate research applicants
In postgraduate research courses, students undertake a supervised research project leading to the production of a thesis. For information on the research application process, refer to the website www.medfac.usyd.edu.au/futurestudent/postgrad/research.
