Mission
The mission of the University of Sydney Business School (formerly the Faculty of Economics and Business) is to build and sustain the leading learning community in business and management education in Australia and its region.
History
- Founded in 1920 as the Faculty of Economics: the School is one of the oldest of its kind in Australia.
- 1930: the first Bachelor degree offered - Bachelor of Economics.
- 1970: the first postgraduate coursework degree offered - Masters of Economics.
- 1999: with the appointment of Professor Peter Wolnizer as Dean, the School embarked on a major strategic transformation
- 2011: The Faculty of Economics and Business becomes The University of Sydney Business School
International accreditations
- Since April 2004: We have earned dual AACSB accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business for our business and accounting programs. We are one of only two business schools in Australia and one of only nine in the Asia-Pacific region with this dual accreditation.
- Since November 2004: We have been awarded the EQUIS accreditation through the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD).
Professional accreditations
- Since September 2005: We have achieved Joint CPA Australia and Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) accreditation for our accounting programs.
- Since July 2005: Our industrial relations and human resource management award programs have received Australian Human Resource Institute (AHRI) accreditation
- Since May 2004: We achieved the Australian Computer Society (ACS) accreditation for our Business Information Systems majors.
International agreements
- In 2004 we co-founded the Association of Asia Pacific Business Schools (AAPBS).
- In 2006 we became the only Australian business school to be admitted to CEMS, the Global Alliance in Management Education (formerly the Community of European Management Schools), and in 2009 achieved full academic membership.
- With over 50 distinguished exchange partner institutions from around the world, the University of Sydney Business School offers an extensive range of exchange opportunities to its students and staff members.
Centres and institutes
Award programs
The University of Sydney Business School offers an extensive range of undergraduate (Bachelor), postgraduate coursework (Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Masters), and postgraduate research (Master of Philosophy, Doctor of Philosophy) award programs. We are among the few Business Schools in Australia offering specialist postgraduate programs in Transport and Logistics, International Business, and Innovation and Enterprise. In 2009 the innovative and progressive Master of Management and Master of Management (CEMS) commenced. 2009 also saw the launch of the First Global Executive MBA, which commenced in 2010. The School's flagship programs Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Commerce have both been recently revitalised (for 2011 and 2012 commencements) to give our graduates the best possible start in business careers, as well as develop the advanced skills and knowledge required for high-level positions in industry, commerce and government.

Research
The University of Sydney Business School has an outstanding reputation for the quality of its research across a wide range of academic disciplines and it is also one of the most successful business schools in Australia and the region in attracting competitive research funding.
Over the past ten years (2001-2010), our success has resulted in:
- Almost AU$33 million in research grants.
- Over 3,200+ research publications (audited by DEEWR, not author-weighted).
- 12 in-house produced journals.
- Several of our distinguished scholars are elected Fellows of ASSA (the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia).
- Many Business School academics are editors and members of editorial boards of leading international journals.
The postgraduate research programs offered by the University of Sydney Business School attract a large number of quality local and international students each year. With almost 200 research students currently enrolled, the Business School has one of the largest and most diverse higher degree by research programs in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
