Business Alumni Mentoring Program

There is a wealth of knowledge and experience within our Business School alumni community. We believe engaging students during their study with this community offers a unique opportunity for our students to be inspired and learn from the experiences of our alumni. It also provides the chance for our alumni to give back to the Business School community, and to contribute to the development of aspiring business leaders.

The Business Alumni Mentoring Program was launched on 18 June, 2015, by the Dean of the Business School, Professor Gregory Whitwell. This program matches business professionals with current students in a setting where our alumni can provide relevant business input into career planning and decision making.

The program runs for six months from May to November, with monthly one-on-one meetings scheduled between mentors and mentees.

What’s involved?

Successful applicants will be matched with mentors, taking into account areas of study, interests, experience and goals.

Applicants must be able to commit to a monthly meeting with mentors from May to November, at a venue to be decided by the mentoring pair. To get the most from your experience, you will also be required to:

  • attend a briefing before the launch of the program, to learn how to get the most out of your mentoring experience;
  • attend the launch of the program in May, to meet your mentor and negotiate your mentoring agreement;
  • submit a monthly learning journal entry as part of the evaluation of the program;
  • attend the Graduation Event in November.

Students and mentors will be matched based on a range of factors:

  • Student’s career goals
  • Student’s needs in terms of ‘soft skill’ development
  • Mentor’s areas of expertise
