Final Honours Year

Structure

The honours year can be structured as:

  • Coursework and thesis: Four one semester long modules at the 4000 level, worth 12 credit points each plus a thesis.
  • Joint honours by thesis: At least half of the "honours by thesis" coursework requirement of each discipline plus thesis written in one discipline only.

The modules for Operations Management and Decision Sciences Honours are:

The modules for Econometrics Honours are:

Only those students with an exceptional performance across all subjects are eligible for consideration for first class honours.

All students must attend and participate in research seminars and workshops within the discipline during their Honours year.

Double or Joint Honours

It is possible to complete either double honours or joint honours, with one of either Quantitative Business Analysis, Operations Management and Decision Sciences or Econometrics. Double honours involves completing all the honours requirements in QBA or OMDS or ECMT and also all the honours requirements in one other subject area (e.g. Finance), and thus double honours normally takes an additional year. In joint honours the two subject areas are more generally closely related and a special program of study is designed for fourth year. This will usually entail doing approximately half the final honours coursework requirements for QBA (or OMDS or ECMT) plus half the coursework requirements for the other subject area. The thesis will be written in one Discipline only.

The Discipline of Business Analytics encourages joint Honours with other Disciplines where feasible. A student must satisfy the requirements for entry to Honours in one of the disciplines and a major in the other discipline.

Note that joint honours cannot be undertaken in more than one of QBA, OMDS and ECMT; i.e. joint honours can consist of ONLY one of these areas, combined with a 2nd choice from areas such as: Finance, Economics, Marketing, etc.
