Description

This course will help develop commercially aware and empowered entrepreneurs. It is designed to equip participants with the skills and experience necessary to build a business in a variety of industries. The Graduate Certificate in Innovation and Enterprise will be relevant to people with a variety of interests including the self-employed, researchers, creative artists and social activists. Essentially the course ensures participants gain valuable skills and know-how in:

  • Identifying and understanding opportunity, change and innovation;
  • Developing successful businesses locally and internationally;
  • The skills associated with market research and intellectual property, financial and project management; and
  • The interpersonal and communication skills relevant to entrepreneurial business activities, including leadership, teamwork and pitching skills.

Participants also have the opportunity to develop expertise in the commercialisation of research and other intellectual property, social entrepreneurship, or enterprise in the creative industries.

Note. From 2012, Commercialisation Training Scheme (CTS) scholarships will no longer be available for commencing students.

Course requirements (2012 commencing students)

To be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Innovation and Enterprise, students complete a total of four units of study (24 credit points), comprising:

  • two core units of study (12 credit points); and
  • two elective units of study (12 credit points).

Pre-2012 continuing students' course requirements

2011 Commencing Students (Non-CTS Scholarship recipients)

 Students who commenced study in 2012 should complete their course according to the requirements set out above under the "Course requirements (2012 commencing students"

2011 Commencing CTS Scholarship Recipients

CTS Scholarship recipients who commenced their course in 2011 will be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Innovation and Enterprise according to the resolutions of the year they commenced. These students will successfully complete a total of four units (24 credit points): IBUS5001, IBUS6011, IBUS6014 and IBUS6015.

2010 Commencing Students (Non-CTS Scholarship recipients)

Students who commenced in 2010 will be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Innovation and Enterprise according to the resolutions of the year they commenced if they successfully complete a total of four units of study (24 credit points): IBUS5011, IBUS6015, and two electives selected from IBUS6012, IBUS6013, IBUS6014, IBUS6016 or IBUS6017.

2009 and 2010 Commencing CTS Scholarship Recipients

CTS Scholarship recipients who commenced their course in 2009 and 2010 will be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Innovation and Enterprise according to the resolutions of the year they commenced. These students will successfully complete a total of four units (24 credit points): IBUS5011, IBUS6012, IBUS6014 and IBUS6015.

Entry requirements

For entry into this course applicants must have three years of relevant work experience or a completed a bachelor's degree, graduate diploma, graduate certificate or equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution (at a standard acceptable to the Business School).
