Academic Progression

The University of Sydney Coursework Policy (Part 15 Progression) outlines the Triggers for identifying students who are not meeting academic progression requirements (section 75).

It is a rule of the Business School that all units of study offered by the Business School may only be undertaken three times. If compulsory or core units are failed three times, degree requirements cannot be met and students will have to withdraw from their program or be excluded from further study within the Business School.

Postgraduate Students – Stage 1

Please bring your completed staying on track survey on the day of consultation.  Please be reminded that it will be noted on your progression profile, if you fail to comply with this request within this timeframe.

Undergraduate Students – Stage 1 and 2

Postgraduate and Undergraduate Students – Stage 3 Show Good Cause Enquiries

Please read the guide to showing good cause and direct all Stage 3 show good cause enquiries via email to business.sapadmin@sydney.edu.au. It is not appropriate to contact the Business School to request assistance with drafting your show good cause letter. If you require this type of assistance please contact the Students Representative Council (SRC) as an undergraduate student or the Sydney University Postgraduate Representative Association (SUPRA) as a postgraduate student.  Students are required to remain enrolled and attend lectures until a decision has been made by the Faculty or until the appeals process has been exhausted.

Readmission after exclusion

Students who have been excluded may seek re-admission to their course after a period of four semesters have elapsed. Please note re-admission is not automatic and may not be successful.

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students must apply in writing to the Student Administration Manager of the Business School. This should include a brief account of prior inability to make reasonable progress, including any relevant documentation, plus an explanation outlining why they believe further candidature is likely to be successful.
