Discipline of Work and Organisational Studies

Michael Wright is enrolled in a part time PhD by research, in the Discipline of Work and Organisational Studies. "I'm researching the historical relationship between paid and unpaid labour in the NSW fire suppression 'industry'. The research focuses on the demarcation, both within the workplace and the 'community' between these two groups. I hope my research will form part of a more critical debate on volunteerism and highlight some of the themes underlying the continuing tensions between paid and unpaid fire fighters in the 21st Century". Michael is a Senior Industrial Officer (Coordinator) with the NSW Fire Brigades Employee's Union, Sydney.

One of the factors which persuaded Michael in deciding to take his PhD in the Faculty of Economics and Business was because "progressive labour history is strongly encouraged in the Faculty and has attracted good academic staff".

Michael is supervised by Greg Patmore.
