The Sydney Genesis 2012 Best Social Startup (Funding of $3,000 Cash (0% equity taken) + in kind support including 3 months full time co-working space and 12 months full service Saasu license!) is awarded to the best social or not for profit business that the judges think is most able to bring its vision into effect. The winning business will have shown that they have created an original solution to an existing problem, and that it will be brought to action by an exceptional team of driven individuals.

Winning the 2010 Genesis Competition has allowed us to travel to Sierra Leone to provide low cost, eco-friendly sanitary pads to the women and girls.
Women and girls in developing countries use newspaper, tree bark or dirty cloth to manage their period. Beyond being unhygienic, this is also painful and embarrassing, resulting in the girls missing out on one week of school EVERY month because they have their periods. This results in them falling behind class and eventually dropping out. In many developing countries, menstruation equals inequality.
