Peilin Cai is a PhD student and tutor in the Finance Discipline, The University of Sydney Business School. Peilin received her Bachelor degree in business management and accounting from Brunel University, England and Master’s degree in finance and management from University of St Andrews, Scotland. Peilin’s research area includes sovereign credit rating, international capital flows and foreign direct investment.

Thesis working title

The effect of sovereign credit rating on foreign direct investment

Her thesis examines the relationship between sovereign credit rating and FDI flows between developed and developing countries. There are three main findings in the thesis. First, sovereign credit ratings of both donor and recipient countries are important drivers of bilateral FDI flows. Second, investors have different credit risk attitude toward investments in developed and developing economies. Third, FDI flows are affected by geographic region’s average credit rating.
