Industry Placement Program

Applications have now closed for Semester 1 2012 placements.

This opportunity is available to the University of Sydney Business School students who will be in their second or third year of study and interested in gaining work experience with a top international firm in Sydney while studying.

Students undertaking a major in BIS can, as part of the Industry Placement Program, enrol in 'INFS3080: Business Information Systems Project' in order to have their industry placement credited towards their BIS major.

The deal

  • Weeks 1-4: Students will attend lectures at University to prepare for the industry placement

  • Weeks 5-12: Students will be placed at a leading international firm, and will work full-time on corporate projects as assigned by the company supervisor

  • Week 13: Students will make a presentation on their placement experience

  • There is no payment or salary from the company

  • 6 credit-points will be awarded for successful completion of the unit of study

  • The assessment will involve reporting on your industry experience in the context of your prior studies and the theories, frameworks etc. that you have learned

  • The company will provide students with study-release at a rate of half a day per additional unit of study, up to a maximum of three half days - to allow students to progress work in their other units and attend those lectures

This is a unique opportunity to gain valuable industry experience while studying.

Department permission and 48 credit points is required for enrolment in INFS3080. As there are a limited number of work placements available, the Discipline will select students based on merit, academic history and motivation.
