First Place INFS6001, Semester 1, 2009

"After completing the core subject I was interested to learn more of the impact IS/IT have on today's business and the contribution they have for an organisation in terms of their strategic approach to gaining a competitive edge in a constantly and changing environment.

Before I studied BIS I was not aware of tools and techniques that management use to analyse the internal and external environment of an organisation. Learning and applying the BIS frameworks and models especially in a group setting was really fun but was also extremely useful in helping me understand them.

I think that studying BIS will help me understand how do businesses and organisations choose to strategically use IS/IT to gain a competitive advantage over other competitors. I believe having studied BIS had enabled me to develop the analytical skills and background knowledge required to engage in a strategic role in my career."

"Wherever we look in Business today, IS are part of it. It is fascinating to see in how many different ways there is a relationship between Business and IS and how good it is to have understanding in both areas. Business Information Systems studies provide me with that knowledge. Don't think that Business Information Systems is IT, this isn't the case. IS are the business side of IT. Business Information Systems subjects can provide students with knowledge needed to understand how Information Systems affect nearly every area in daily business. Many people don't recognise the influence of IS in our daily lives. BIS subjects give you the knowledge and understanding of how Business Information Systems effects or change businesses".
