Joint First Place - INFS6001 Managing Information and Systems, S2 2011

Although my background is International Business and Finance, my work experience showed me that whatever I do, I will always be exposed to information systems. Knowing how information systems work, how to use and improve them, I knew would give me an edge over competitors in my career.

The highlight of my business information systems studies was the absolutely motivated and dedicated teaching staff who were extremely experienced in the field and always up to date about most recent developments. High calibre guest speakers also underpinned the relevance of the materials taught.

I would recommend everyone who does a business degree to at least undertake one business information systems subject, because information systems are an essential part of every business. To remain competitive, businesses need effective and innovative information systems and employees who can develop and/or manage them. Through a BIS course you will learn exactly that. From experience I know that these abilities are highly regarded amongst employers.

First Place - INFS6016 Technology Enabled Business Innovation

I love technology and I reckon that business information systems serve as a bridge between business and IT, which will provide answers about how to use technology to improve the business performance to various industries.

Studying BIS helps me generate new ideas by using personal knowledge and understandings, and I am sure that it will contribute to my future career.

I highly recommend students who are extremely interested in both IT and business to have BIS courses, because I found those students with an IT background can better understand and utilize the knowledge they have learned.

Leaders must have an understanding of how and when BIS can be applied to maximise business strategies. My desire to gain a deeper understanding from a business perspective of Information Systems lead me to undertake this course.

The BIS course has equipped me with a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of business-critical information systems, the complexity of issues, trends and risks confronting organisations and provided a practical approach to addressing all aspects within any style of organisation. The skills and approach taught will be highly transferrable across all roles and organisations throughout my career.

Diversity in the classroom from the mix of students and lecturers of differing backgrounds has created an invaluable learning experience and environment.

I would highly recommend fellow students to undertake BIS subjects/courses, because they offer opportunities to put the theories into practice by examining and analysing distinctive real world case scenarios. More importantly, there might be a potential to turn your business proposal into reality.

Engaging in numerous meaningful discussions of various business cases and scenarios, as well as understanding how BIS can fundamentally change and improve businesses have been one of many highlights of my BIS studies.
