My marketing subjects stressed the importance of data to gauge consumer insights and create effective communications, and so the BIS principles seemed enormously relevant to this idea.

BIS reflects the future direction of business - as companies move further online, they need the supporting BIS infrastructure to achieve efficiency and a competitive advantage. I think it's quite exciting to be at the frontier of an industry that has enormous growth potential. Also, it's something I can carry with me regardless of what career I pursue.

I would encourage students to take an active interest in the course concepts and seek real world examples. You will be surprised by just how engrained business information systems are in our daily lives.

Before studying INFS1000, I had very limited knowledge of Business Information System and didn't know its impacts in business practice. But after taking up INFS1000 and INFS2001, I started to enjoy business modelling and problem-solving as well as team work. I am amazed by its applicability and how information system could impact businesses.

I would certainly recommend other students to take BIS subjects. Studying BIS can not only enhance your understanding of the real business world, but also allows you to gain variable skills that are transferrable in different areas of work and study.

The BIS major allows you to develop skills that are practical and relevant to real life business scenarios.

Studying the BIS major has allowed me to pursue a career in the Technology division of a major Australian Bank.  I think that businesses are keen to find graduates with both an understanding of business and technology which is what a BIS major can provide students.

What is really special about understanding BIS is that, regardless of which career path I choose in the future, I will always be able to apply the knowledge and experience gained because we are all inevitably involved in processes and business information systems. I believe it has opened up many career paths for me and the possibility of going into any industry is a great position to be in!

During my BIS studies, I worked with enthusiastic and passionate students and lecturers alike. There were many interesting real-life case studies as well as projects that helped me develop professional skills such as interviewing, consulting report writing and presentations. I was also part of the BISA (Business Information Systems Association) Mentor Program with a Deloitte Director as my mentor in 2011.
