Bana Yarralji Bulka
Bana Yarralji is an indigenous-owned social enterprise, balancing its social mission with its economic activities. Its core business is tourism and hosting in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area (North-East Queensland), specialising in eco-tourism and educational hosting. Complimentary activities include research, and traditional knowledge-based land management services.
At the heart of these operations is the enterprise's social mission; to facilitate and assist Kuku Nyungkal people to return to live sustainably on-country by restoring Aboriginal culture and lore to country, improving local Aboriginal health and wellbeing on-country, and caring and preserving their country's natural biodiversity and resources. The business will support the wider Nyungkal community by providing employment, capacity building, and facilitating a range of community services and programs.
The RARE Program is working with Bana Yarralji to develop a staged sustainable business plan for competitive positioning of its services. Select RARE students are working with the founders and various stakeholders to align the business activities with the social objectives, and address the capacity building requirements.
