RARE Projects
Barkly Shire Council
Coffin Manufacture and Design
The Ali Curung community is 380 km northeast of Alice Springs, and is home to four main Aboriginal tribal groups; Warlpiri, Warumungu, Kaiditch and Alyawarra. Barkly Shire Council is supporting the development of a community business in coffin manufacturing that will employ and train local residents. The coffins are decorated in traditional Aboriginal totems, design and the Aboriginal flag making them culturally attractive, and appealing to other communities.
RARE students will engage with the Ali Curung community, representatives from Barkly Shire Council, and multiple other stakeholders to support the social ventures development and planning for sustainable operation.
