Murrin Bridge Connections, NSW
The Murrin Bridge Connections is an Aboriginal owned vineyard, established in 2001 on local community land near Lake Cargelligo. Regular harvests occurred between 2001 and 2005, providing employment and quality wine that was bottled and sold by a local winery in the region. It is Australia's first Indigenous owned winery, and only the second in the world.
The Murrin Bridge Local Aboriginal Land Council, owners of Murrin Bridge Connections, realise the vineyard's potential and are engaging RARE students to support their efforts in revitalising operations that have lagged over the past few years. Students will be required to work closely with the community leaders, and local wineries to identify partnership opportunities, analyse the wine industry, and develop a solid branding and marketing strategy. The development of the enterprise will need to align with capacity building within the community, providing training, employment and a sustainable revenue stream for the local Aboriginal people.
