Master of Marketing - Practical & Applied Learning

Get real experience on the job

Our aim is to help talented people to advance their career in marketing, particularly within the company they currently work for, and to prepare them for top management jobs in all areas of business.

Because a significant component of this program involves gaining genuine marketing experience by working on real projects for a real company (ideally, your own employer), both you and the company reap the rewards in the form of enhanced marketing insights.

To help you gain the support of your employer, we've developed publications that explain the benefits of the program to employers. Our student information office will give you these when you apply.

If you can't complete your project work at your present place of employment, we'll help you select another suitable organisation.

Benefits to employers

If you are an employer, we encourage you to support your best and brightest people to complete this program. In return, they'll bring back renewed motivation, new knowledge and enhanced skills.

The Master of Marketing program has been designed with the input of industry leaders. It focuses on the latest strategic knowledge of contemporary marketing issues and offers a unique opportunity to study and apply in-depth the latest marketing practices.

You'll have plenty of opportunities to ensure that the program works to your mutual advantage, as many of the units of study are project-based and students are encouraged to consider studying issues they face in their actual working life. This is particularly so in the case of the final project, in which employers are welcome to participate actively, including assisting in the assessment process at the final presentation.

Other ways in which you as an employer can contribute to the Master of Marketing experience include:

  • financial support of tuition fees
  • providing a flexible work schedule
  • assisting in selecting project topics
  • providing access to company resources for study purposes
  • participating in assessing final student projects.

International experience

Depending on demand, you may be offered the opportunity to travel overseas and immerse yourself in the marketing culture of an international business based in another country (see International Consulting Project).

Students in the 2010 program travelled to France to investigate the marketing issues facing mature businesses in one of the country's most prestigious winemaking regions. In 2012, students will visit Brazil to study that country's dynamic business environment.
