Is a Post-Grad Research Degree Right for You?

Before you commit to a post-graduate program you will want to do some research to make sure this is the right choice to serve your life goals. There are three obvious places to start your search: the Internet, current PhD students and staff, and the top journals.

Internet resources

Below are few links that might help both in your evaluation of whether a post-graduate degree is right for you and how best to go about getting the degree of your dreams. A number of these are focused on the North America schools, since that is the largest market, but there are still significant insights here about what is required and why one might get a degree. Some blogs about getting a PhD in Business. Typically these give some useful insights into what is involved and what it is like to be a graduate research student. Most are based on the U.S. experience, which differs somewhat from the Australian model (i.e. Australian model is typically shorter with less coursework) but they should still be helpful in assessing whether a PhD is right for you.

Reach out to your network and talk to as many people as you can find who have completed or are completing the type of degree you want.

If you are nearby, it is worth attending to better assess whether an academic career is right for you. ANZMAC hosts the largest marketing conference, held annually in either Australia or New Zealand.
