Expert shares secrets to stock market success

Leading Equities Analyst, Portfolio Manager and self-made entrepreneur, Roger Montgomery recently visited the campus to bring to life the complex subject of stock market investing.
Economics and Business students, as well as interested staff from all disciplines attended the passionate presentation from Roger about why he believes stock market investing should be accessible to everyone and how he achieved his own financial success.
Significantly, Roger pointed out the need for thorough research about a company before purchasing any stocks and the importance of long-term investing rather than 'gambling'.
Associate Dean (Undergraduate) Prof Tyrone Carlin originally approached Roger to present the student seminar and said he was delighted with the enthusiastic way the students embraced the event.
"Many people are very nervous about the thought of trading on the stock market and don't know where to begin," said Tyrone. "Roger's presentation however, simplified many aspects and it was clear the students got a great deal of practical benefit from what he had to say.
Eva Knight, a casual lecturer in the Discipline of Operations Management and Econometrics at the faculty, was an enthusiastic attendee and said the benefit for students from listening to Roger was enormous. "Roger's breadth of experience on this subject made his presentation incredibly insightful. There is so much more to learning than what is in a text book and he bought to life so many concepts by identifying some really great examples.
Following the success of this inaugural seminar around the theme "If I knew then what I know now....", further presentations by other leading industry figures are planned for later in the year.
