Faculty alumna appointed new QBE Chairman
01 Jul 2010
Faculty of Economics and Business alumna, Ms Belinda Hutchinson (BEc '76), will this week officially commence her position as Chair of QBE Insurance.
The announcement, that she would become one of just a handful of women to chair an ASX 100 company, was made in March following news that the long-standing incumbent, John Cloney was retiring.
Ms Hutchinson has also been a director of Telstra, Coles Myer, TAB Limited, Crane Group and Snowy Hydro Trading. Both Telstra and QBE are top 20 ASX-listed companies.
Ms Hutchinson has been a director of QBE since 1997, a role she took on when she completed a five-year term as an Executive Director of Macquarie Group where she headed up its underwriting business.
Prior to this, she was a vice-president of CitiBank Australia's corporate finance division and between 1981 and 1992 was in charge of its financial institutions group.
Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Professor Peter Wolnizer said: "Belinda is one of Australia's leading corporate and most influential directors and a wonderful role model for aspiring economics and business graduates. She is an invaluable supporter of the faculty and we are extremely proud of her achievements. We heartily congratulate her on this recent appointment."
