Finance Team Get On Their Bikes For Charity
15 Nov 2010
Four representatives from the Finance Discipline in the Faculty of Economics and Business and a colleague from the Faculty of Engineering recently joined 10,000 participants in the 2010 MS Australia Sydney to the Gong bike ride, the charity's major annual fundraiser.
Professor Michael McKenzie (Chair of the Discipline of Finance), Dr Angelo Aspris (Lecturer, Finance), Sean Foley (Phd student, Finance), Dr Alex Frino, (Professor of Finance and Chief Executive Officer of the Capital Markets Cooperative Research Centre Ltd), Professor Masud Behnia (Faculty of Engineering) rode from Engadine to Wollongong in 2 hours and 20 minutes and, in doing so, raised $2,250 for people and families living with Multiple Sclerosis.
The bike ride was not without drama with Professor Alex Frino almost not starting after his rear derailer hanger shattered before the race began. This meant the gears were removed from his bike and he rode all the way in first gear. A rider from another team almost took out the Finance team when he collided into them at Bald Hill Lockout on Lawrence Hargrave Drive.
The team look forward to bettering their efforts in 2011!
