Smooth Sailing

17 Feb 2010

Three enthusiastic crews from the Faculty of Economics and Business sailed away with a number of prizes at the 35th annual Australian Institute of Chartered Accountants regatta on Friday the 12th of Feb.

One yacht skippered by Professor Bob Walker won first prize in Division C of the competition and was also awarded fastest overall on handicap. Another yacht skippered by Senior Lecturer Neal Arthur and crewed by faculty representatives came second in Division B. A third crew skippered by Lecturer Peter Edwards also competed admirably and contributed to the Faculty being awarded first prize for the Teams competition.

Despite the weather being very humid with a little amount of wind, crew members made up of staff and students were treated to clear skies and were able to enjoy their afternoon on the water.

The faculty crews were also delighted to welcome industry contacts such as Uwe Schlagmueller, Director Hands On Systems, Microsoft Dynamics ERP systems as part of their team. More than 30 yachts competed on the day across 3 divisions and there was a large representation from the top tier accounting firms, financial planning organisations and other universities.

The regatta kicked off from the stunning waterside CYCA at Rushcutters Bay and toured through Sydney Harbour before crews landed back at the Yacht club to celebrate their performances and share success stories at the presentation function.

Participants all agreed it was a great opportunity for the academics and professional staff of the Accounting Discipline to mix with industry professionals and members of the Institute.
