31 Oct 2012

Associate Professor Vikas Kumar from the University of Sydney Business School has been awarded a prestigious year-long John H. Dunning Visiting Fellowship at the University of Reading's Henley Business School in the United Kingdom.

Dr Kumar is the Director of the Emerging Market Internationalisation Research Group (EMIRG) at the Business School, and has taught International Business and Strategy courses at graduate and undergraduate levels.

"Vikas Kumar has expertise in the challenges of doing business in emerging markets in Asia," said Professor Sid Gray, Chair of International Business. "His appointment as a Dunning Fellow is recognition of his outstanding record and future potential as an international business researcher."

The visiting fellowship programme at Henley was established in memory of Professor John Dunning, British economist and a pioneer in the field of international business. The programme aims at creating opportunities for researchers in international business to visit and collaborate with academics at the Henley Business School's John H. Dunning Centre for International Business.

Visiting fellows are selected by Henley's International Business scholars Mark Casson, Alan Rugman and Rajneesh Narula. Two Dunning Fellows were selected from a pool of 16 applicants from across the world for the 2012-13 fellowships.

The fellowship is awarded to applicants who engage in multi-disciplinary and theory-driven research and who can contribute effectively to the field of international business, in the tradition of Professor John Dunning, who spent more than 50 years researching into the economics of international direct investment and the multinational enterprise.

Dr Kumar's research interests are in the areas of Internationalisation, Emerging Market Firms, Emerging Markets, Business Groups and Outsourcing/Off-shoring.

His research has been published in several premier international business and management journals and he is currently guest-editing a special issue for the Journal of International Management (2012) on 'Emerging Market Firm Competitiveness'. He is also guest-editing an issue for the Management International Review (2013) on 'Leveraging India: Strategies for Global Competitiveness'.
