Cowley named Associate Dean for Research

Dean of the University of Sydney Business School Professor Geoffrey Garrett today announced the appointment of internationally-renowned scholar of consumer choice Professor Elizabeth Cowley as the School's new Associate Dean (Research).
"I am extremely pleased that one of our best researchers has agreed to take on this critical role. Elizabeth will lead from the front when it comes to building further the Business School's reputation for producing the highest quality academic research that has real cut through in the world of business", Professor Garrett said.
Professor Cowley, from the Discipline of Marketing, uses experiments to collect data on how reconstructing memory and deceptive communication affect consumer behaviour. Her research has been published in the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Advertising, Applied Cognitive Psychology, Journal of Personality and Journal of Business Research. Cowley also serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Consumer Research and the International Journal of Research in Marketing.
Before coming to Australia, Professor Cowley worked for several years in the marketing and planning departments of PetroCanada, the largest integrated oil company in Canada. She has also worked with leading Australian companies such as the Commonwealth Bank to understand how they can use experimental methods to improve firm performance.
"I look forward to working with my colleagues to further enhance our standing as one of the Asia-Pacific's top centre's of business and management research", Professor Cowley said.
Cowley earned her BA from University of Waterloo, her MBA from McGill University in Montreal, and her PhD from the University of Toronto.
